Duane H. Ladwig

Duane Henry Ladwig, 78, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Friday April 26, 2019, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, in the presence of loved ones.

Duane was born March 21, 1941, to Albert and Ruth (Cumihow) Ladwig on their farm in Calloway, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1962, he married Janet Grant. The couple moved from the farm along with his brother Herb to Renton, WA in the spring of 1966, where Duane worked for Boeing Aircraft.  In August of 1968, they moved back to Minnesota, continuing to raise their children in Dilworth and Glyndon.  Duane worked at the elevator in Dilworth until 1978, when he began working at West Steel Manufacturing in Fargo.

In 1980, Duane married Charlotte Arett, and they lived with their children in Moorhead, MN. In 1986, while operating their grocery store in Fairmount, ND, Duane and Charlotte began renovating their lake home on Prairie Lake near Pelican Rapids, MN. The lake home became their permanent residence in 1990. Duane worked at Pelican Valley Nursing Home until his retirement in 2007.

Duane enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. In addition to his flower gardens, he grew the most luxurious lawn around.  During their retirement, Duane and Charlotte enjoyed many DIY projects. You can see the metal palm trees they made lighting up beaches on Prairie Lake, north to Pine City and Roy Lake, and south to the Twin Cities. He also enjoyed watching old Westerns, and most of all, he was an avid fan of professional wrestling.

Duane is survived by his loving wife Charlotte, his children Kevin (Lucy) Ladwig, Jess Ladwig, Becky (Les) Stenerson and Scott Ladwig; step-daughters Jacqueline Arett, Rebecca (Dale) Walker, Deborah (Ted Karle) Arett, Christine (Ryan) Giddings, Jennifer Arett Albrecht, and Danielle (Joshua Dick) Arett; grandchildren Justin Ladwig, Joshua Stenerson, Moriah Ladwig, Brianna Ladwig, Jacob Stenerson, Branden Ladwig, Zachary Ladwig, and Tanner Ladwig; step-grandchildren Hilari Copeland, Anissa Larson, Brandon Krogh, Casey Krogh, Chase Walker, Haley Walker; siblings Herb (Marion), Norma Stalboerger, Jim, Russell (Patricia), William (Delores), Lorrain (Jack) Brown, Larry and Robert; and many nieces and nephews and step-great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ruth, brother-in-law Bernard Stalboerger, sister-in-law Evonne Ladwig, niece Katrina, nephew MarLee Anderson, step-grandson Chad Krogh, and step-son-in-law Russell Powers.
