Duane Torgerson, 90, of Moorhead, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Duane was born December 4, 1926, in Audubon, MN, to Charles and Pearl Fraser Torgerson. He graduated from Audubon High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. Duane proudly served his country during World War II, stationed in the Phillipines. In early 1948, Duane met his future wife, Irene Brateng, and they were united in marriage on September 10, 1948, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
Duane worked as a truck driver for Cass-Clay Creamery for 40 years, before retiring at the age of 62. After retirement, he enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, bowling, and playing cards. For many years, he played on the Red River Senior Golf Tours and Irene and Duane enjoyed the company of 6 special couples in a card club every month for 35 years. Duane and Irene loved to travel, and they took several bus tours and spent many winters together in Arizona. Irene passed away on July 16, 2016.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Moorhead, Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Moorhead American Legion.
Duane is survived by his children; Linda Craig Cain, Nancy Tim Moore, Brian Sandy, David Kim Winger, friend, and Daniel Kathy; 10 grandchildren, Chris and Cory Cain, Matthew Wentz, Adam, Ross, Kevin, Michael, Rachel, Ryan and Lindsay Torgerson, 14 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Phyllis Bob Gottenborg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene, his granddaughter, Angela Wentz, his brothers, Archie and Loren, and his sisters, Fern and Dorothy.
