DuWayne Harlan Sanford “Dewey” Teigen, 89, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Bethany on 42nd, Fargo, ND.
Dewey was born on June 23, 1932, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Helge and Stina (Evenson) Teigen. He grew up in Pelican Rapids where he graduated from Pelican High School in 1950. He attended Moorhead State University for two and a half years before being drafted into the US Army. He performed his basic training at Camp Roberts prior to serving a year in Korea. He was united in marriage to Wilma Fick on June 13, 1953, in Vergas, MN.
After serving his country, Dewey returned and finished his schooling in 1955 at Dakota Business College with a bachelor’s degree in business. He began his career as an Accountant Manager with Northern States Power and lived in Moorhead for 33 years. He retired in 1988, when NSP became Xcel Energy, and moved with Wilma to Lake Lida. They wintered in Mesa, AZ, for nearly 30 years before moving to Fargo, ND, in 2016.
Dewey was an active member of the Lions, YMCA, and American Management Society. He was involved in many sports, but his love was baseball. He played semi-pro ball and his proudest accomplishment was pitching back to back no hitters. He also enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and making knives.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife, Wilma; children, Diane (Tim) Olson, Mark Teigen, Lynn Schmid, Scott (Kim) Teigen, Corey Teigen, and Troy (Heather) Teigen; daughter-in-law, Christi Teigen; grandchildren, Staci Palmore, Kristi (Bobby) Finn, Jenny Olson, Peter (Kaela) Olson, Katie (Sunny) Mare, Joshua (Jenine Killian) Teigen, Annie (Caleb) Kormann, Lauren (Ian) Engstrom, Luke (McKenzie Lautt) Teigen, Emily Teigen, Jonathan Teigen, Jacob Teigen, Kayla Teigen, and Bryce Teigen; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Lucille Teigen and Laura Kmoch; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Helge and Stina; and siblings, Alice Harms, Kermit Teigen, and Raymond Teigen.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Loon Lake, in Vergas, MN. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
