Earl Moran, 94, Moorhead, MN, went home to God on Friday, February 25, 2005, at his residence, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Earl A. Moran was born on February 12, 1911, to Earl and Viola Adkins Moran, in Moorhead, MN. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1930. Earl was an all-around athlete. Beginning in the eighth grade and throughout his high school years, he started on five straight Moorhead High teams that advanced to the state basketball tournaments. He was named "All-State" the last three of those years.Earl attended Concordia College, 1930-1934, and was a "key" to the school's first ever basketball conference title, in 1930-31. Earl earned "All-State" honors in basketball that year. The next fall, he was a "running back" for the Cobbers' first conference football champions. He continued as a dual-sport "stand-out" throughout his college years.Earl married the love of his life, Wilma Hazel Quick, on April 13, 1933, in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Moorhead until 1962. They lived in Bloomington, MN, until 1976. Earl retired from the beverage business that year, and they moved to Detroit Lakes. Wilma died on March 16, 1986. In 1996, Earl moved to Glyndon, MN. In 2002, he moved to The Evergreens in Moorhead, where he lived until the time of his death.Earl is survived by one son, John Carol Moran, Detroit Lakes, MN; two daughters, Pat Johnson, Glyndon, MN, and Erlys Dick Barnett, Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola; his wife, Wilma; a great-grandson, David; and a son-in-law, Kenneth E. Johnson.In lieu of flowers, the Moran family requests donations be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
