Ed was born on November 19, 1917, on a farm near Sabin, MN, to Erick Amatus and Elise Marie Erickson. He was baptized on December 17, 1917, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. At the age of 6, he started school at Clearview School unable to speak much English since his father came from Sweden and his mother came from Norway. He later attended Moorhead Public Schools. At the age of 15, he left home and enlisted in the Civil Conservation Corp CCC and moved to northern Minnesota. While in the CCC he built roads and worked as a government trapper. He later moved to the state of Washington and continued his enlistment with the CCC working on road construction returning to Moorhead 1 1/2 years later. He then went to western Montana working on a logging crew before again returning to Moorhead.Ed married Miriam Castonia on May 16, 1942, in Moorhead, MN. He worked for Building Specialties as a roofer and flooring mechanic. He later co-founded Moorhead Linoleum and Tile Company and remained an owner for many years. After selling his ownership in Moorhead Linoleum and Tile Company he went to work as a flooring installer for Moorhead State University retiring at the age of 67. In his retirement years he spent many days doing woodworking in his shop and spending time at their lake home on Pelican Lake. Ed is survived by his wife of 68 years, Miriam of Moorhead; two daughters, Sandra Richard Vigen of Bloomington, MN, and Karen Bill Benson of Waunakee, WI; a son, Roger Lisa Erickson of Moorhead; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Arthur Gwen Erickson of Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters and a half-sister.
