Edwin G. Kallander

Edwin G. Kallander, 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Serenity Memory Care in Dilworth, MN.

Edwin Gene Kallander was born September 26, 1932, in Marion, ND, to Edwin H. and Alice (Leistikow).  He grew up in Hickson, ND and graduated from Comstock High School in 1950.  Ed served in the Navy, aboard the USS Diamond Head, for four years.  He married Maxine Anderson on August 6, 1955.  Ed worked at Erv and Bud’s Skelly gas station for 5 years, and also for Scheels Hardware in Moorhead for about 5 years.  He retired from the City of Moorhead Power Plant after 27 years.

Ed enjoyed singing with the FM Opera, The Silver Follies and the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Ed and Maxine took many memorable trips together to Norway, Italy, Iceland, Alaska and Hawaii.  As a family, they enjoyed many camping trips all over the United States and had many good times at their cabin on Lake Lida.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine; sons, John (Ginger), Curtis (Peg), Robert (Denice); daughter, Carol (Peter) Bullene; 13 grandchildren, Quinn (Trevor) Ibach, Theron (Kayla), Jesse, Jimmy (Anne), and  Catie Kallander, Chelsea (Jason) Turner, Caleb, Zachery (Amber), Logan, and Spenser Kallander, Tony, Alex (Heather) Bullene, and Amanda (Justin) Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brydgette, Leila, Kayley, Hannah, Reiley, Evelyn, Paytynn, Finnigan, Rey, Kora, Kenley and Kyler; sister, Joanne (Alan) Lester; sister-in-law, Judy (Arne) Teigen; brother-in-law, Ron Curfman; uncle Art Leistikow, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ellen Curfman; granddaughter, Alicia Mittleider, and great-granddaughter, Regina Kallander.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  The funeral service will be Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 11:00 A.M., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Interment will take place in the spring at Lower Wild Rice Cemetery in Hickson, ND.
