Elaine C. Carlson

Elaine C. Carlson, daughter of Florence (Buscher) and Albert Muellenbach, was born December 6, 1925 at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, MN.  She grew up in Morton, ND and Moorhead, MN, attended grade school at St. Joseph’s School, Moorhead, and graduated in 1943 from Moorhead High School.  During WWII she went to Minneapolis for vocational training in bookkeeping and typing.  Upon graduation Elaine was employed by the Navy Department in Washington, DC., eventually returned several years later to work with her parents in Morris, MN.  The family moved back to Moorhead where she worked at Northwestern Bell in Fargo, ND for several years.

On June 19, 1950, Elaine married Bert Carlson in Moorhead at St. Francis de Sales Church.  She was a homemaker raising 4 children.  Elaine became a Hospital Visitation Volunteer at St. Ansgar’s Hospital visiting parishioners from St. Francis parish. In 1981 she went back to work as bookkeeper for Sandra Kay Designs until 2001.

Mom enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles, crossword and word find puzzles, but her passion was metal detecting. She had enjoyable times out searching for coins, rings, mysterious pieces of metal and an occasional aluminum pop top.  Mom loved fish… both fishing at an area lake or an occasional trip to Duluth for smoked fish.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.  Elaine truly saw the value and treasure in everyone and every aspect of life.

Elaine is survived by four children, Sandra Carlson, Moorhead, Sharon (Dwight) Johnson, Moorhead, Sue (Mike) Hauglid, Detroit Lakes and Steve (Terrie) Carlson, Fargo; and five grandchildren, Corey (Darla) Johnson, Lester Hauglid, Brenda (Seth) Houglum, Alex Carlson, and Kaitlyn Carlson; and five great grandchildren, Jacki and Tori Johnson, Landon Hauglid, and Jude and Annie Elaine Houglum.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bert.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
