Elaine Ruth Wittman

Elaine Ruth Wittman, 96, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020, in her home in Moorhead. Elaine was born on a farm on February 29, 1924, near Walcott, North Dakota. Her parents were Carl R. and Lydia (Blumer) Skoog.

Elaine grew up in the Walcott/Colfax communities. She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion United Methodist Church of rural Walcott, North Dakota. Elaine graduated from the Colfax High School in 1941. She attended M.S.T.C. in Moorhead, MN. After attending many night classes and summer school sessions, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. Her teaching career includes rural schools in North Dakota and Minnesota. She also taught in Tenney, MN, and Breckenridge, MN. After a 37-year career, she retired from Wadena Public School in Minnesota in 1983.

Dale Wittman and Elaine were married in 1946. They had two sons, William and Brian. They made their home in Breckenridge, MN, and Ottertail Lake, MN. Dale died in 1990.

Elaine loved and enjoyed the time on Ottertail Lake, golfing, camping, travel walking, and reading.

Elaine is survived by her two sons; William (Margaret) and Brian Wittman; her granddaughter, Amanda Wittman; brothers, Robert (Kay), and Wayne Skoog; sisters, Kathryn Kielb, and Sandra Breiner; sister-in-law, Erlys Skoog; godson, Kurtis; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Carl and Lydia; stepmother, Esther (Engness) Skoog; sisters, Ruth Olson, Elsie Edenstrom, and Elvina Edenstrom; brother, Kenneth Skoog; brothers-in-law, Norrie Olson, Clair Edenstrom, Dennis Edenstrom, and Paul Breiner; and niece, Renea Skoog.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on her webpage along with her video tribute and a guestbook at www.wrightfuneral.com. Final resting place will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND.
