Elden Myron Hanson, 89, of Hawley, MN died Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, MN.Elden was born on November 17, 1921 near Gary, MN to Emil and Mary Thorsvig Hanson. He grew up near Gary, MN where he attended country school. He worked on his family's farm until 1942. On February 14, 1942 he married Helen Tatley. Elden then farmed near Hitterdal, MN until he served in the United States Army. He served his country in WWII, earning a bronze star medal. After returning from the service, Elden worked construction in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He made his career for 35 years at American Crystal Sugar, retiring in 1983. After his retirement, Elden and Helen enjoyed visiting their daughters and their families in Arizona during the winters for 25 years. Elden enjoyed watching Western movies, playing Bingo, going for walks, and traveling. He also loved to dance the Polka and Waltz with his wife. Elden was a lifetime member of the VFW in Moorhead, MN. He helped build Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal, MN, in which he was also a very active member. Elden is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen; two sons, Arlan Aziza Hanson, Osceola, WI and David Randee Hanson, Bismarck, ND; five daughters, Donna Arden Feser, Fargo, ND; Yvonne Keith Olson, Twin Valley, MN; Marla Jim Wegleitner, Sartell, MN; Janet Dave Dickerson, Peoria, AZ and Rita Gary Green, Glendale, AZ; two sisters, Inez Asleson, Ulen, MN and Lila Roger Hoyme, Comstock, MN; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Myron and Barry; one brother, Morris Hanson; and two sisters, Vera Larson and Clarice Anderson.
