Eleanor M. Jeffries

Eleanor Jeffries, 103, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Bethany at 42^nd in Fargo.

Eleanor, the daughter of Richard and Grace Norval, was born May 1, 1916, at Hermon, Illinois.  She grew up in nearby Maquon, Illinois.  After high school graduation she attended and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska where she majored in English and Music.  She was voted Queen of the May her senior year at Nebraska Wesleyan.  Following her graduation from Nebraska Wesleyan, she taught school at Goehner, Nebraska.  While in college she met her future husband, Donald “Jeff” Jeffries, on a blind date.  They were later married in 1940.  Following World War II and Jeff’s discharge from the Army Air Corps in 1945, they lived in Hastings, Norfolk, and North Platte, Nebraska where Jeff was manager of Gamble’s Stores.

In 1955, they moved to Moorhead, Minnesota when Jeff joined Noble Adjustment Company in Fargo.  They were active members of the Moorhead Presbyterian Church. Eleanor remained a full-time homemaker, a job she thoroughly enjoyed throughout their married life.  She was an outstanding cook making virtually every meal from scratch.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, entertaining at her home, playing cards, travel, and spending free time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Grace; her brothers, William and Richard; her sisters, Shirley and Nancy; and her husband, Jeff.  She is survived by her son, Richard (Linda) Jeffries, Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Kim (Marty) Moen, Horace, ND and Paul (Lisa Nokken) Jeffries, Moorhead, MN; three great-grandchildren, Tanner Brandt, Chelsea Brandt, and Spencer Brandt; and three nephews, Donald (Wanda) Keller, Richard Keller and Jerry (Gayle) Keller.

Memorials should be sent to Ethos Home Care and Hospice, Fargo.

Interment services will be held at the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, Nebraska, at 11:00 A.M., June 27th, 2020.
