Eleanor Snustad

Eleanor Wilma Snustad, 97 of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Halstad, MN passed away June 12, 2018 at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.

Eleanor was born July 29, 1920 to William Knute and Mella (Hoiland) Olson in Anthony Township near Halstad, MN.  She attended NWSA in Crookston, MN graduating in March of 1940.  In the fall of 1940 she enrolled at Fargo Business College for one year.  After Fargo Business College, Eleanor accepted a position at Ada Feed and Seed Company where she worked until 1943.  In September of 1951 to August of 1959, she was a public school secretary at the Halstad Public School.

On March 4, 1943, Eleanor was united in marriage to Carroll G. Snustad of Hendrum, MN at the La Juanta Air Force Base at La Juanta, Colorado.  After their marriage, she traveled with Carroll on his assignments living in San Antonio, Carlsbad and Hobbs New Mexico and Salina, Kansas.  After Carroll’s return from the Pacific, they purchased their first home in Halstad, MN.

Eleanor was very active in the church where she taught Sunday School for 11 years and served 3 years as President of the Halstad Lutheran Church Women.  In 1987, she was elected to serve as chairperson of the search committee for the purpose of calling a new pastor.  In 1992 and 1993 she was elected President of the Halstad Lutheran Congregation.

In July of 1959, Carroll and Eleanor adopted a daughter, Paula Jane.  On June 7, 1961 they accepted three boys Paul, Scott and Steven Satran whose parents were killed in a private plane crash in Searchlight, Nevada.

In June of 1967, Carroll passed away from cancer at the age of 48.  Eleanor continued to reside in Halstad until she moved to Moorhead, MN in 1997 to be closer to her family.

In her spare time, Eleanor enjoyed gardening and golfing at the Goose River Golf Course in Hillsboro, ND.

Eleanor was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Eleanor is survived by her children; Paula Ostgarden, Moorhead, MN; Paul Satran (Laurel) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Scott Satran (Diane Lynn), Fargo, ND and Steven (Sue) Satran, Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Miranda Ostgarden, Danielle (Joe) Muckenthaler, Anthony Satran, Stefanie Satran-Blake (Mike), Jennifer Larson and Tyler Larson and three great-grand children, Isaiah Ostgarden and Henry and Emmett Muckenthaler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll G. Snustad; her parents; her brothers, Walter, Sam and Arlen Olson, and her sisters Irene Coffelt and Elsie Olson and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 17, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 18, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., at Halstad Lutheran Church in Halstad, MN. Interment will be at Halstad Lutheran South Cemetery.
