Betty was born in Page, ND, on May 27, 1923, to Evan and Amanda Moen Brunsvold. After attending Page Elementary School for several years the family moved to Fargo where she attended grade school and Fargo Central High School, graduating in 1941. After graduation, she worked for the Draft Board in Cass County, the Officer's Candidate School at North Dakota Agricultural College now NDSU, and General Motors Parts Department in Fargo. She married Don Atherton on January 8, 1946. After his discharge from the Army in May 1946, they moved to the family farm in Oakport Township and she quit her job at the General Motors Office. They farmed until 1982 at which time they retired and built a home a mile from their farm house.As a farm wife, Betty was very active in many community organizations, including Ladies Aid, Homemakers, and 4-H, earning the Gold Clover Award for her many years of 4-H Club leadership. Betty and Don have been active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead for the past 65 years.She is survived by her husband, Don, and four children: Greg Peggy Honeycut Atherton of Dallas, TX, Judy Louis Bede of Dayton, OH, Gary Peggy Wallace Atherton of Moorhead, MN, and Terry Donna Boardman Atherton of Moorhead. Also surviving are her ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and one sister.Betty's family request memorials be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
