Elizabeth Bergford

Elizabeth J. Bergford, age 99, died October 2, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona.Elizabeth Jeannette Brown was born December 5, 1909 in Grant County, Minnesota to Eli Webster and Mary Susan Godward Brown. She married Harold Bergford in Fergus Falls on December 24, 1935.She received a B.S. degree from Moorhead State Teachers College and a M.S. degree from North Dakota State University. She taught in country schools, elementary and high schools, and in the Education Department at Moorhead State University. Betty was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Moorhead and of various education organizations.After her retirement in 1974 Betty lived in Detroit Lakes and Mesa, Arizona. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, reading, playing bridge, doing needlework and volunteering for schools and charities. She will be remembered for the many friendships she formed throughout her life.She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1983, a son Donald in infancy and two grandchildren.Grateful for having shared her life are her children and their spouses: Mary and James Stone, Canby, MN; David and Susan Bergford, Dadeville, AL; Jane and James Stewart, Racine, WI; and Lois and James Kraemer, West Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grand children and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
