Elizabeth “Betty” Masseth, 88, of Dilworth, MN, died February 14, 2023, in Fargo, ND, under care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Elizabeth Lavina Horner was born January 17, 1935 in Kintyre, ND, to Ignatz and Eva (Schlosser) Horner. She attended Manheim Grade School, 3 miles from the family farm. In 1953 Betty married Peter Masseth in Napoleon, ND and they had 7 children, making their home in Bismarck and later Fargo. Betty worked at various places in Bismarck including the laundromat, the hospital and Lee’s Steak House. The family moved to Fargo in 1978 and Betty worked for Camelot Cleaners and later in housekeeping at St. Luke’s Hospital for 16 ½ years. She especially loved to clean in the pediatric ICU where she could hold the babies.
Betty married Rodney Wiecks on March 1, 1989 and they made their home on Lake Ida for 20 years, later moving to Dilworth for the summers and Mesa, AZ for the winters. Rod died in 2016.
After retirement, Betty stayed active by enjoying their lake home, gardening, canning, baking and painting. She enjoyed birds (her special “Buddy”) and always loved a good happy hour.
Betty is survived by her children, Sheila DeLaCruz, Melvin (Kathy) Masseth, Lavina (Jeffrey) Reed, Germaine (Steven) Bratcher, Pete (Lynette) Masseth, Arleen (Mike) Cappello and Kelly (Miriam) Masseth; brothers, Andy Horner and Clifford (Aggie) Horner; sister, Angeline Jacob; sister-in-law, Jolanta Horner; grandchildren, Peter, Sheila, Sam, Sarah, Mason, Sarah, B.J., Tina, Nick and Matt, and great-grandchildren, Ella, Jackson, Alex and Sloane. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rod; sister, Monica (John); brothers, Albert and George; sister-in-law, Rose and brother-in-law, Valentine.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., and rosary at 10:45, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Dilworth, MN. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, north Fargo.
