Ellen Speer

Ellen Speer, 99, of Felton, MN, died Friday, November 10, 2017, in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN. Ellen was born at home in Eglon Township, rural Hawley, MN, on December 2, 1917, to Emil and Hulda (Olson) Goranson. She grew up on the family farm and attended District 15 Country School. On November 26, 1940, Ellen married Donald Speer. Together they made their home and farmed in Felton, MN. Ellen enjoyed raising their children on the farm and later moved in to Felton in 1968. Over the years, she also enjoyed dancing, quilting, playing cards and scrabble, and was a long-time member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  She spent many weekends at their cabin on Little Toad Lake, where she loved spending time with family. She will be dearly missed.

Ellen is survived by her children, Bruce Speer, Lynn (Carolyn) Speer, Darrell “Pete” (special friend, Carol) Speer, Carol Speer, Joel (Koly) Speer; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Lenora Holmgren, Lillian Hilgers; sister-in-law, Darlene Goranson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; grandsons, Christopher Speer and Duane Speer; brother, Alf; sister, Agnes Simenson; and brothers-in-law, Vernon Simenson, John Holmgren and Wallace Hilgers.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, MN.

Funeral service will be Thursday, November 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Felton, MN.

Interment will be at Felton Cemetery.
