Elvin “Benny” Burdette Benson

Elvin “Benny” Burdette Benson Jr. passed away on February 18, 2019, at Bethany on 42^nd under the care of Ethos Hospice and the Cottonwood Court staff.

Elvin was born on March 28, 1922, to Elvin and Beatrice (Wick) Benson. He grew up in the Harwood-Prosper area and graduated from Moorhead State High School in 1939. He married Joyce Johnson on March 12, 1943 in Moorhead, MN, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage. He proudly served in the USAF from 1943-1946 and on competing his patriotic duty, resided in Fargo and Barnesville, MN.

Elvin worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. He served his patrons with timeliness, respect, and friendship. He started playing golf when he retired and enjoyed many a game with buddies from the post office. Elvin loved to garden and maintained a beautiful yard and flowers, winning awards from the City of Fargo for his endeavors. He was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran church and cherished those friendships. His quiet kindness and gentle humor were his gift to the world.

Elvin is survived by his daughters, Lana (Keith) Adrian, Binford, ND, and Marcia (Wendel) Meyer, West Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and 1 step great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Beverly (Richard) Edenborg of Sartell, MN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents, Elvin Sr. and Beatrice; brother, Bob Benson; and sister, Phyllis Curran.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, ND, following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Messiah Lutheran Hour of Worship or Ethos Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff of Bethany on 42^nd, Cottonwood Ct., and Ethos Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. They were truly his extended family.
