Elward P. Jacobson, 93, of Makato, MN, formerly of Lake Park, MN, died of natural causes on Thursday, February 5, 2015, surrounded by his family. Elward was born in Lake Park on March 13, 1921, to George and Marie Johnson Jacobson. He grew up in Lake Park and graduated from Lake Park High School. He worked with the railroad before serving in the 745th Railway Battalion during WWII. After the war, he met and married his wife, Anna, in 1946. They settled in Fort Wayne, IN, and started a family.
He was an accomplished auto mechanic and maker of precision metal parts and firmly believed that nothing was ever broken until he tried to fix it, and that a well placed nail could fix many things. He also liked to fix the world’s problems over a cup of coffee with his neighbors and friends at the American Legion and the VFW. Elward was retired 30 years and never tired of his view from the backyard. He was a member of The Depression and WWII generation; he was content with a simple life of home, family and balancing work and relaxation. He returned to Lake Park and his family whenever possible and now he returns for his final rest.
Elward is survived by his daughter, Kathy Jacobson; son, John Jacobson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; son, David; and siblings, Constance, Alpha, Gudrun, Hjordus, Trygve, Sigurd, Thormod and Adella.
