Eric I. Chalimonczyk

Eric I. Chalimonczyk, 94, Moorhead, left this world on January 7th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Eric was born January 6th, 1926 in Eastern Poland to John and Mary (Sokoldinska) Chalimonczyk. He was conscripted and forced to work in German labor camps as a teenager in 1939. Following the end of WWII (when Eastern Poland was turned over to the Soviets), Eric emigrated to Aberdeen, SD as a Displaced Person, and became a naturalized US citizen in 1957.
Eric was educated at St. Luke’s hospital in Aberdeen as a Radiologic Technologist. In 1952 he married Donna Ackerman. In 1956 he was hired to manage the Dakota Clinic Radiology Department, Fargo. He was a beloved “boss” and x-ray technique educator, who served many years as an active officer and member of the ND Radiologic Society. He retired in 1991. Eric loved the outdoors and spent many years at Cormorant Lakes. He wrote several books of poetry both in Polish and in English, enjoyed home building projects, and was a life-long political history enthusiast.
He is survived by Donna, his wife and partner of 67 years. He loved being a father and grandfather to daughters Tanya Chalimonczyk (Steve Olson), Wellington, CO; Paula McGuinty, Moorhead; and son Mark Chalimonczyk, Fargo; Granddaughter Jennifer Chapman (Dustin) and their 3 children, Gage, Abigail, and Lily Chapman of Kansas City, MO; and Grandson Carson McGuinty, Moorhead. Preceding him in death are his parents, 3 sisters and a brother.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 12, from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., with a time for sharing at 3:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral home, Moorhead, MN.
