Ernest Aasen, 86, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died there on Friday, May 30, 2008, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Ernest Aasen was born on August 9, 1921, in Velva, ND, to Anton and Anna Aasen. He grew up and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army, 947th Air Engineers, the army's first special service force, during WWII, serving in Italy, Africa, Germany and the Aleutian Islands. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Following his service, he returned to Minot, ND, and then attended watchmaking and gemology school in Missouri. He moved to Fargo, ND, and went to work for Royal Jewelers for several years. Ernest married Effie Thue and they made their home in Moorhead, MN. They had been married for 57 years. Ernest worked for Jewelmont Corporation of Minneapolis, as a wholesale jewelry salesman, travelling the upper Midwest and Alaska. After he retired, he did clock repair. His favorite years were the years spent at his cabin on Big Cormorant Lake. He loved boating, fishing and working in his garden and yard. He had a big heart for dogs. He will be dearly missed as a father and grandfather.Ernest is survived by his wife, Effie Aasen, Moorhead; one daughter, Sandy Kevin Lott, Moorhead; a brother, Donald Olga Aasen, Los Altos, CA; two granddaughters; sister-in-law, Yvonne Aasen, Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Malon, Marvin and Gordon.Ernest's family would like to thank the dialysis team at MeritCare, the staff at Eventide and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the all the wonderful care he received.
