Esther “The Lefse Lady” Ness
Esther C. Ness, 97, of Lake Park, MN, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN. Esther was born August 24, 1918, in Cormorant Township, Becker County, MN, to Carl and Hilda Lundstrom Berg. She grew up on the family farm and attended Dist. 10 Country School. On June 20, 1937, Esther married Henry Ness in Hawley, MN. Together they made their home and farmed near Lake Park, MN. She took pride in their farm and enjoyed keeping busy with raising the children, gardening and quilting. Over the years, she made lefse for people across the region. Outside of the home, she worked at Lefse Land for a time and later at Carl’s Lefse in Hawley. She enjoyed serving others and spending time with family. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two sons, Orris Georgia Ness of The Villages, FL, and Lloyd KathyNess of Lake Park, MN; one daughter, Beverly Bruce Kohler of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Diane Heer, Sharon Lownik, Gerald Vogt, Linda Jones, Roxanne Sonnenberg, Keith Ness, Greg Ness, Paula Harland, Duane Ness, John Mills, Major Thomas, Christopher Andvik and Lilly Ness; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Malinoff and Julie Jackson; twenty-three great grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Helen Vogt, son, Elroy Ness, two grandsons, one great-grandson, one great-great-grandson, two sisters, Anna Softing and Edith Hedstrom, and two brothers, Gotfred “Gubby” Berg and Einar “Buddy” Berg.
Visitation: Thursday, March 31, 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
Funeral: Friday, April 1, 11:00 a.m., Rollag Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN.
Interment: Park Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hawley, MN.
