Esther M. Eide

Esther M. Eide, 89, entered eternal life Thursday, April 28, 2016 with her children by her side at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. She was born at home in Amenia, ND on July 12, 1926 to Frank and Elizabeth Temple. She attended Lake Park Public Schools. She married Burton Eide on November 10, 1943 at Salem Lutheran Church parsonage and as Mom always told us, “Reverend Oas performed the ceremony while his twin sons sat on the living room couch eating their bacon for supper”.

Esther was a farm wife during the first years of marriage while raising their 5 children. Once the kids were in school, she started working during the winter frying lefse in a Hitterdal store and continued after the business moved to Hawley. In 1967 they moved into Hitterdal and purchased the E& B Grocery Store. In 1972, they bought the Top Notch Motel in Fertile, MN where Mom ran the motel and Dad drove back to Hitterdal every day. They sold the motel in 1975, moved back to Hitterdal and she then attended Josef’s School of Hair Design. After the training, she decided to change course and began working at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN, working for 26 years before retiring. But the most important job in her life was being a homemaker, a fabulous cook, and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother.

Esther is survived by her 5 children: Linda Robert Erickson, Carrington, ND, Virgil Kitti Eide, Glyndon, MN, Debbie Mylin Cummings, Glyndon, MN, Gwynn Barry Langerud, Hawley, MN, and Pam Rudolf, Dilworth, MN; 12 grandchildren, Jeff LeAnn Cummings, John fiancée Stacy Erickson, Sheri Jerry Schumann, Steve Tonia Erickson, Jesse Nicole Langerud, Susie Brian Thomas, Jamie Jon Edmunds, Mike Courtney Erickson, Kelly Rudolf, Darrin Eide, Derek Eide and Casey Rudolf; 24 great grandchildren: Dylan, Braydon and Gavin Cummings, Keaton and Jack Erickson, Hunter and Alex Stusynski, Tyler and Chase Schumann, Easton Paeper, Harlee Erickson, Ethan, McKenna and Mya Langerud, Paige, Brooke and Jessalyn Thomas, Vendela and Ivy Wadzink, Colin Edmunds, Annika Erickson, Natalie, Brooke, Carter and Taylor Eide; sisters Elizabeth Pederson, Pat Bob Mitchell and Judy Cliff Hahn; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, firstborn son Virgil LeRoy, parents, siblings Pauline Courneya, Bernadette Rudolph, Bernice Wahl, Florence Lee, John Temple, Betty Fisk, James Temple, Kathryn Hayashi and son-in-law Mike Rudolf.

She was so proud of her family and always said the Lord had blessed me every day. In the last year she was also blessed with such good friends, Marion, Lilla and Avis. God bless her memory, she will be forever missed.
