Esther V. Schmidt

Esther V. Schmidt, 85, of Moorhead, formally Sabin, died Friday, December 09, 2005, in MeritCare's Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.Esther Violet Lobitz was born on August 9, 1920 to Louis and Marie Burke Lobitz, in rural Sabin, MN. She grew up and attended school in Sabin and one year in Barnesville. During her schooling in Barnesville she traveled by train back and forth to Barnesville as her father was the Depot Agent for Great Northern. She graduated from Moorhead High school in 1939. On August 30, 1941 she married Clarence Schmidt in Sabin, together they had two children, Rodney and Lynette. Clarence died on August 13, 1993. In 1989 Esther moved to Moorhead. Esther was a Homemaker's Club member, she was a Charter Member of the Sabin 4-H club and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin. Esther's highlight of the day was having coffee with friends. She will be missed by many.She is survived by one son, Rodney Clarice Schmidt, Sabin, MN; one daughter, Lynette Ed Sweeney, West Fargo, ND; four sisters, Elizabeth Leonard, Avon, MN, Marge, Paasch, Moorhead, MN, Lois Roy Snyder, Fargo, ND and Janice Carl Anderson, Fargo, ND; two step-brothers, Roy Johnk, Ashland NH and Ken Johnk, Portland, OR; two step-sisters, June Beck, Austin, TX and LaVerne Rowlett, Moorhead, MN; three grandchildren, Randy, Jennifer and Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Scott and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Fred "Bud" and George Lobitz; and one sister, Dorothy Krabbenhoft.
