Ethel A. Haakenson

Ethel Ann Haakenson, 87, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Ethel was born on February 1, 1934, to Otto and Emma (Tholen) Moen on the family farm in Galesburg, ND. She graduated from Galesburg High School and went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead. She married Dale Haakenson on March 18, 1955.

Ethel was active in the community and in Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo where they have been members for over 60 years. Upon retirement they moved to Rose Lake where they spent 18 years before returning to Moorhead in 2010.

Ethel was smart with a warm sense of humor. She was an animal lover and enjoyed nature. She enjoyed playing cards and even video games with her grandkids…and she humbled them on a regular basis. Ethel loved to cook and always had a plan as to what meal was coming next. She was the glue that held the family together and always looked for the good in people. A trait she passed onto (most of) her children.

Ethel is survived by her husband; children, Lee (Jeff) Anderson, David (Melody) Haakenson and Susan (Dave) Haarstad; grandchildren, Jami, Chris, Garret (Grace), Chelsea, Kristin, Mike (Anna) and Heather (Nick); and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin daughters, Beth and Betty; brothers, Orin, William, Dale and Richard; and sisters, Emy and Ivy.

A private family service will be held.

Final resting place will be in Elm River Cemetery, Galesburg, ND.
