Ethel I. Quiggle

Ethel Irene Quiggle, 90, of Moorhead, MN passed into eternal life July 22, 2013. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. , Thursday, July 25 her birthday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead, with one hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, where she will be laid to rest next to her parents. She was born July 25, 1922 to Walter and Elgie Blankenship Quiggle at Baker, MN and later moved with her family to rural Glyndon, MN. During WW II Ethel moved to Hermosa Beach, California with her sisters . She helped care for her nieces and nephews, worked at a restaurant, did housekeeping, and then began her lifetime work at the Little Company of Mary Catholic Hospital in Torrance. She enjoyed her small apartment and walked a mile or so most days to work and often to her church. Holidays were spent with her sisters and their families; she enjoyed many overnight visits with her niece, Jennifer Mukai, cousin JoAnn Hudspeth, and other relatives. Ethel was a longtime parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. One of her favorite trips was an Alaskan cruise with her friend, Olive Moore. She enjoyed visits to Reno, NV to visit her brother Gerald and family, and also to Minnesota to see family. After her retirement from the hospital, she moved to Santa Maria, CA to live near her sister, Lois. Later she moved to Moorhead, MN and settled at Eventide at Fairmont where her sister Betty lived. Ethel loved to walk, going to her bank, the Center Mall, beauty shop, the post office, and other stores. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moorhead. In 2009 she moved to Eventide at Eighth, Moorhead, where she resided until her death. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Grant & Elaine and Gerald & June Quiggle, an infant brother, Robert; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel & John Smithwick, Charlotte & Mal Stromme, and Betty & Steve Henderson; brother-in-law, Herman Poltl; and a dear cousin, Phyllis Beckett. She is survived by one sister, Lois Poltl, Santa Maria, CA and her children, Mike, Susan, Randy, Jim, Tim, Terri, all of Calif; other nieces and nephews, Joan Smithwick, Jan Fred Hammer, Dennis JoAnn Smithwick, Marlys Ed Mulcahy, all from the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding area; Darryl Cleo Smithwick, Mary Jim Dahlen, all from MN; Dan Faye Smithwick, FL; Dave Cindy Smithwick, AZ; Jen Tad Mukai, CA; Pat B.J. Bertram, Deb Dave Offerman, Mike Andrea Quiggle, Ed Kay Quiggle, all of MN; Darlene John Haggenmiller, CA; Theresa, Paula, Sheila, Jay, Chad, Guy and Jeff Quiggle, all of Reno, NV; Jayne Jerry Leninger, CA; Judy Thomas, Utah; Steve Penny Henderson, Oregon; other relatives and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care Aunt Ethel received at Eventide at Eighth, Moorhead. God bless the memory of Auntie Ethel.
