Evelyn Lennea Swanstrom

Evelyn Lennea Swanstrom, 99, of Lake Park, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.

Evelyn was born on June 8^th, 1919, to Alfred and Julia (Erickson) Swanstrom in Becker County, MN. She spent her life on the family farm near Lake Park caring for her sister, Anna, until her passing in 1986. She had very fond memories of her time on the farm and spoke frequently of the joy she shared with friends and family there.

Evelyn was a creative person. She often expressed her creativity through drawings, poetry, and flower gardening. During the spring and summer months there was always something blooming and fragrant in her yard. This is likely where she received inspiration for the many beautiful wedding cakes she created over the years.

Evelyn had a big heart, whether it was people in her community, people from her church, or cold lonely animals, she looked for any opportunity to lend a helping hand.

Evelyn was a devout Christian and lifelong member of Eksjo Lutheran Church where she attended regularly. In addition to being an active member, she played a vital role in preserving the church’s history. Having learned to talk and read Swedish as a young child, she was able to help translate, by hand, the original church records from Swedish to English.

Evelyn is survived by her nieces and nephews, Karen (Fred) Lundstrom, Elaine (David) Oftelie, Paul (Marcene) Carlson, Francine (Leonard) Burnside, Luci Carlson, Barry (Colleen) Carlson, and Patti (John) Clouse; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Julia; siblings, Anna, Carl, and Alphild; and nephews, Nick, Keith, and Richard; and great niece, Joni.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Eksjo Lutheran Church, Lake Park, MN. Burial will be at Eksjo Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
