Everett "Bud" L. Beckett, age 74, of rural Glyndon, MN, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in his home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley after a courageous battle with cancer.Everett Louis Beckett was born on July 27, 1936 to Louis and Elsa Gruhl Beckett in Hawley, MN. He grew up and attended school in Glyndon, graduating from Glyndon High School in 1954. On August 26, 1957 he married Shirley Grant. Together they had five children, Michael, Sherry, Bob, Wendy and Brent. Bud worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in many capacities from 1954 until his retirement in 1996. In addition to his job with American Crystal Sugar, Bud also worked as a farmer, assisting his father and later farming his own land.Bud enjoyed fishing, camping with his children, taking family vacations and a good debate. His most enjoyable hobby was golfing. His lifelong dream was to own his own golf course which became a reality in 2010 when he and Shirley leased the Ponderosa Golf Course for a year until his health no longer allowed. Bud was an extremely intelligent man with numerous talents. He enjoyed tinkering with trucks and tractors. In 1965 he and Shirley built their own home in which they still live. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 54 years, Shirley Beckett of Glyndon, MN; son, Michael Debbie Beckett of Rollag, MN; daughter, Sherry Jim Schumann of Rollag, MN; brothers, Leonard Nancy Beckett of Palm Bay, FL and Richard Judy Gilbertson Beckett of Fargo, ND; son-in-law, Mark Beto of Glyndon, MN; eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Brent and Bob Beckett; daughter, Wendy Beto; brother, William Beckett; sister, Marjorie West; granddaughter, Lindsey Beto and step-grandson, Jason Schumann.
