Evert A. Wiisanen, 85, of Moorhead, MN, passed away June 19, 2012 at Sanford Health with his family by his side. Evert was born February 3rd , 1927, to Abner and Alina Wiisanen in Kingston Township, MN. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1947. During his service, he attended NDAC and Oregon State College under the Army Specialized Training Program. When the war ended, he was assigned to the Alaska Communication Systems and served time in Juneau, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He also attended the Academy of Accountancy in Minneapolis, Minnesota.On July 31st, 1948, Evert married Delores VanVleet in Kimball, MN, and they made their home in Minneapolis. Evert was an accountant and eventually moved to Moorhead, MN, to join the Fargo Foundry now known as Mid America Steel in 1952. He retired in January of 1993 as the past president and CEO. Evert was very involved in the community. He was a Troop 621 scoutmaster for 6 years in Moorhead, MN. He was a member and past president of the Moorhead Rotary Club, member and director of the Moorhead Country Club, member and past president of the Moorhead State University Foundation Board, member and past president of the Moorhead School Board, director and treasurer of FM United Fund, and member and past president of the Moorhead Athletic Association. Evert enjoyed many activities including golf, fishing, dancing, and woodworking. He enjoyed watching athletic events especially football and watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of sports. His mother, Alina; father, Abner Wiisanen and seven siblings preceded Evert in death. He is survived by his wife, Delores , Moorhead; daughter, Diana William Christianson, Bloomington, MN; son, Ron Vicki Wiisanen, Fargo; daughter, Pam Rick Gronbeck, Moorhead; and daughter, Denise Jeff Kamstra, Fargo; and a sister, Ethel Brown, Moose Lake, MN.Evert's grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Grateful to have called him "Grandpa" are: Stephanie Gorans and her sons Brandon and Tyler, Bloomington, MN; Matt Erica Wiisanen and their daughters Maya and Anya Lexington, KY; Mike Devon Wiisanen, Chicago, IL; Amanda Josh Kadrmas and their daughter Zoey, Fargo; Jeff Wiisanen, Fargo; Kyle Gronbeck, Moorhead; Jenna Johnson, Minneapolis, MN; and Sean Kamstra, Fargo.Evert was a loving, involved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed. Memorials can be sent to the American Heart Association.
