Florence L. Aakre

Florence L. Aakre, 86, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Hawley, MN, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Florence was born February 19, 1930, in Cromwell Township, Clay County, MN, to Helmer and Helga Alm Bjornson. She grew up and attended elementary school in Hawley through the 6th grade and then attended District School #37 in Skree Township before graduating from Hawley High School in 1948. She worked at Northern States Power now Xcel Energy from 1948 – 1952. On June 7, 1952, Florence married Laurence Aakre in Hawley. She worked at State Bank of Hawley from 1960 – 1974 where she became assistant cashier. After they bought the Rollag Implement, she worked in the business and did the bookkeeping until retiring in 2000.

Florence enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and her taking care of their flowers. She also enjoyed wintering in Arizona, and their many travels, especially to Branson, MO, Niagara Falls, Hawaii, and seven European countries including Russia. Florence loved her family, and attending her grandchildren’s activities and gatherings. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Phyllis, Kermit, Allan and Harold.

Florence is survived by her husband of 64 years, Laurence; son, Steve Mary Sather Aakre of Fargo, ND; daughter, Sheryl LeRoy Grandbois of Pelican Rapids, MN; grandsons, Chris Whitney Aakre, Grant Kaitlyn Aakre, Harrison Samantha Aakre, Matthew Kathryn Grandbois, Joseph Jessica Grandbois, David Elizabeth Grandbois; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Nolan, Adelyn and Toren Aakre, Alice, Ray, Peyton, Grace, LillyAnn and Summer Grandbois. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Charlotte Henry, Anna Herbranson and Clarice Aakre.

Visitation: Tuesday, July 5, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

Funeral: Wednesday, July 6, at 11:00 a.m., in Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN.

Interment: Hegland Lutheran Church Cemetery
