Floyd Harold Erickson (Bud), passed away peacefully May 22, 2019, at Essentia Health in Fargo, surrounded by his children. Floyd was born on February 23, 1932 to Frances (Maier) Erickson and Denver Erickson in Moorhead, MN. He and his family, including his sister, Janice, lived primarily in Minnesota and North Dakota, and he had a fondness for Baker, Kent, Kelly Lake, Detroit Lakes, and Moorhead. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1951, and served in the United States Airforce from 1951 to 1952.
Floyd married his long-time love, Barbara (Barb) Duncan, on October 16, 1958 and they raised three children in Moorhead. He spent most of his career working for Northern States Power, retiring after 37 years of service. He served in his Kiwanis Club, and enjoyed competing on a bowling league for many years. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching numerous sporting events, while coaching athletes from the comfort of his recliner. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family in nature, learning about history, and watching birds with Barb. He’s remembered as a stoic and kind man with a broad and warm smile who loved his family. He worked hard from a very young age and enjoyed watching his grandchildren, and more recently, his great granddaughter during life’s adventures. Floyd had a soft spot for animals, including many family dogs throughout the years. He had a very special place in his heart for the family cottage on Lake Melissa where he enjoyed watching many sunsets and used his “green thumb” to grow magnificent shrubs, trees, and more. Floyd was a humble man who will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Floyd is survived by his three children, Lynne (Shawn) Anderson, David Erickson (and special friend Kerry), Jennifer Erickson, grandchildren Katie “Katrinca” (Brice) Conner, Molly (Royce) Wenner, Chelsea (Luke) Smart, Betsy (Abe) Nebgen, Mariah Marks Erickson, great granddaughter Marley Rose Wenner, his brother-in-law, James Duncan Jr., sister-in-law Charlene Duncan, and wonderful nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, grandparents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. A Memorial service will be held on Memorial Day Monday, May 27th at Wright Funeral Home at 1:00 pm, with the visitation preceding the service at 12:00 pm. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Farmstead Assisted Living, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and the compassionate medical providers at Essentia Health who cared for him this past year.
