Frances A. Warling

Frances was born April 17, 1917 in Cavalier, North Dakota, to Frank and Emilie Clodt Hemmerling. She grew up and attended school in Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, North Dakota. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College. She taught rural school in North Dakota and Becker County, Minnesota. Frances married Gerhard Warling on August 5, 1943 in Lake Park, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed in Callaway and Lake Park, Minnesota. She was involved in Lake Park Cub Scouts, Franklin Home Makers, the Red Hat Society, and was also involved with the Lake Park Parent Teachers Association. She wrote for the Lake Park Journal and the Hawley Herald, and she helped write the Becker County History and the history of the Lake Park Children's Home. She researched and wrote a 100 year history of Lake Park business places and of the school for the Lake Park Centennial in 1981. In 1984, she was chairman of the Lake Park Children's Home reunion. Frances enjoyed writing histories for area families and genealogy. Gerhard died June 30, 1990. After Gerhard's death, Frances moved to Lake Park, and later moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Frances entered Oak Crossing in August of 2005.She is survived by two sons, Dennis Joyce Warling of Lake Park, MN, and John Luaine Warling of Lake Park, MN; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Amelia Sorman of Apple Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews.Frances was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great-grandson.The family wishes to thank the many staff members of Oak Crossing and Hospice of the Red River Valley, who provided care for her.
