Franklin Dale Conrad, 88, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 under the care of Sanford Hospice and Bethany Living Center after being diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer.
Frank was born on October 22, 1932, in St. Cloud, MN, to George and Clara (Katzner) Conrad. He graduated from Tech High School, St. Cloud, MN, in 1951. On April 18, 1970, he married Janet Hillstrom in French River, MN. They raised a son, Steven, and a daughter, Kathleen. Frank lived half of his life in St. Cloud with brief moments in Huron, SD, and Virginia, MN. From 1951-1955, he was in the Air Force, stationed at the McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. In 1983, he and his family moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area eventually settling in Dilworth in 1984 where he lived the rest of his life.
Frank worked at several jobs including the St. Cloud Times, off and on, between 1955-1979, where he became an Ad Manager. He worked for 10 years at NETA Property Management from 1983 until retiring in 1993.
Frank enjoyed reading, history, trivia, cooking, and instrumental music. He loved to tell stories, give advice, sing (when he thought no one could hear) and had a great sense of dry humor and wit. He liked celebrating all holidays and birthdays, and made sure his children had the best ones possible. He also tried to keep up with the latest technology. His last fave pastime was watching YouTube. He was very much a homebody, but did volunteer around 15 years as a member of the Dilworth Planning Commission, and for a time the Board of Adjustments. He spent the last several years caring for his wife, Janet, as Dementia took over her. Janet passed away March 30, 2020.
Frank was very giving and donated to many charities. If you would like to honor his life, please do so by giving to your favorite charity in his spirit. The Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society are close to our hearts.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Janet; parents, George and Clara Conrad; his brothers, Harvey, John, and Melvin Conrad; and his sister, Renee Gregory. He is survived by his son, Steven Conrad (Fargo), his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Ananias Gracia (Dilworth). He is also survived by his sister, LaVonne Castagneri (St. Cloud), and numerous nieces and nephews.
