Fred C. Altenbernd

Fred C. Altenbernd, 79, of Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Fred was born March 13, 1935, in Fargo, ND, to Carl and Ida Jacobsen Altenbernd. He grew up on the family farm near Sabin, MN, and graduated from Moorhead High School before serving the U.S. Army. Following his service, Fred returned to the area and began farming near Wolverton, MN. On November 24, 1957, he married Jean Mikkelsen in Moorhead. Together they made their home on the farm and started a family. Fred worked hard and took pride in what he did. They later moved in to Moorhead and spent the summers at their cabin on Pelican Lake. Fred had a great personality, enjoyed spending time with friends and being a part of the community. He also loved spending time at the lake, fishing, and spending time with the grandchildren he adored. Fred will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, John of Hudson, WI, Dan Julie of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Jayci, Zoe and Ray; brother, Jerry Gladys of Sabin, MN; and many friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sister, Janice.

Visitation: Monday, October 27, from 5 – 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Tuesday, October 28, at 2 p.m., in The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN.
