Fred D. Selberg

Fred Selberg passed away Sunday, January 11, 2014 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo under the care of Hospice. Frederick Dale Selberg was born August 5, 1934 to Olga and Edwin Selberg. He graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School where he made life-long friends. After graduation, he returned to the family farm in Harwood. In 1956 he married LaVonne Johnson and the two farmed until his retirement in 1989.

After retirement he enjoyed farming his garden, making lefse and working on projects. A believer in public service, he served on many boards, was active at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church and was a member and a past President of the West Fargo Jaycees. He was the charter president of the West Fargo Exchange Club and received the Book of Golden Deeds in 1994 for his service to the community. Fred was also chairman of the South East Cass County Joint Water Resource District during the West Fargo diversion project. In 2007 Fred and LaVonne were the grand marshals of the West Fest parade in West Fargo.

He is survived by his wife LaVonne; children Cathy Bart Bridwell and Larry Amy Selberg; grandchildren Sarah and Zach Bridwell and James and Amanda Selberg; brother Marvin Selberg; as well as many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and a brother Ernest Selberg.
