Fred E. Nylander

Fred E. Nylander, 92, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead, MN.

Fred Eldon Eugene Nylander was born on July 23, 1927 on the family farm in Graceville, MN, to Herman and Esther (Stomberg) Nylander.  He grew up in Graceville and graduated from Graceville High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served three years.

Following his service, Fred married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Brennan, on December 28, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho.  They moved to Moorhead and started a family.  Fred spent 47 ½ years in the railroad industry, most of which was spent as an engineer.

In his free time, Fred enjoyed being at the lake, music and dancing, NDSU Bison and Moorhead Spud football and gardening.  He loved the outdoors and many of his days at Eventide were spent sitting outside and just looking up at the sky.  Most of all, Fred enjoyed his family.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they loved him right back.  They also knew where to go when their gas tank was empty.

Fred is survived by his wife; sons, Gary (Kathy Maher) Nylander, Bruce (Elise) Nylander and Brian (Barb) Nylander; grandchildren, Aaron Nylander, Adam Nylander, Andrew Nylander, Sarah (Dennis) Eickhoff and Ben (Heather) Nylander and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Vinard Nylander, Miriam Medbery, Emma Crowe, Genevieve Jones and Lemoyne Nylander.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a wake service beginning at 7:00 at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
