Fred Schrom, 92, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, October 01, 2011, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.Fred was born on September 27, 1919, near Bixby, MN, to John and Anna Schrom. He grew up and attended school there. Fred served in the U.S. Army from 1940 until 1945, serving in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and northern Appenines campaigns of WWII. He became a cook after being put on KP and, while serving in Africa, served a cup of coffee to General Patton. Upon his discharge he came to Moorhead and worked at the Fargo Foundry in Fargo, ND, where he met his wife. Fred married Laura Nielsen on October 18, 1947 in Wolverton, MN, and they made their home in Moorhead. He worked as a welder all over the upper Midwest. Fred and Laura enjoyed their summers at the lake on lake Lida. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a meticulous keeper of his yard and enjoyed helping others with theirs. He loved kids.Fred is survived by his wife, Laura, Moorhead; son Mark Patricia, Moorhead; daughters Karen Lomsdal, Plymouth, MN, and Rebecca Mike Sherman, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren Jessica Schrom, Jon-Michael Sherman, and Angela Sherman.
