Major Gary L. Neuharth, Ret., U.S.A.FGary L. Neuharth was brought to eternal rest surrounded by his family on June 27th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Arthur and Christine Neuharth on April 7, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. Gary received his bachelor's degree in economics from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD and subsequently received his master's degree in public administration from The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1966 and served his country for twenty years as a distinguished military officer. Gary married Patty Shultz February 27, 1965 in Mitchell, SD. Following his retirement from active duty, Gary also touched the lives of many throughout his seventeen years as an Air Force JROTC teacher in the Fargo Public Schools. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Christine. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Patty, three children and their spouses; Steven Renee, Savage, MN, Christine Neuharth Patrick Farrell, Omaha, NE, Timothy Michelle Vertanen, Prior Lake, MN; his siblings, Bernice Robert Olson, Sioux Falls, SD and Robert Janie Neuharth, Leland, MI. Most importantly, his life will endure in his true pride and happiness, his eight grandchildren: Treyton, Tia, Thomas, Callan, Owen, Brendan, Gillian, and Aidan. Through their smiles he will forever be present in our lives. Our friend, our father, and our love will forever guide us by the example he set forth in his life and the courage and dignity he displayed over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gary's name can be made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo, ND and St. Joseph Church, Moorhead, MN.
