Gayel Marie Saude

Gayel Saude, 74, Moorhead, MN, passed away June 9, 2021 at Lilac Homes in Moorhead. Gayel Marie Fogel was born May 5, 1947, in Moorhead, to William and Irene (Cummings) Fogel. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1965 and attended Joseph’s School of Hair in Fargo. Gayel began her established career as a beautician in a salon in Ada, MN before opening her own shop that expanded to tanning and dog grooming. Gayel also devoted over 20 years to working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in multiple group home settings. This population filled her with joy and she appreciated the opportunity to integrate her own family with the individuals she supported throughout her career.

Gayel was a devoted mother who worked hard to provide for her two children that she boasted about until the very end. She built and managed a successful household, private business and human service career while obtaining a License Practical Nursing degree. Support for Gayel came from many with the most notable being the Saude and Schoenfeld families who always treated her as one of their own. Gayel loved many life-long friends and cherished the time that she had with her grandkids as their Granny.

Gayel was color. From pink hair to red convertibles; she loved artistic expression, fashion and the sophistication of British culture. She was known for her quick wit and had a great eye for jewelry, especially her rings.  She loved animals and enjoyed several pets including family dogs and Persian cats. Gayle enjoyed spending time at the lake, and traveling abroad.

Gayle is survived by her son Gabriel (Jennifer) Saude, West Fargo; daughter, Ashley (Christopher) Johnson, Fargo; grandchildren, Adam Brager, Alexandra Johnson, Carter Johnson and Makayla Saude; siblings Duane (Marilynn) Fogel, Milaca, MN, Jerry (Betty) Fogel, Gregory, SD and Eileen Hyatt, Montrose, CO; Aunt Mavis Fugere, and special companion, Dode (Lowell) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Willard Fogel, Evie Weum and Carol Kasin. A memorial gathering will be held Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5-7 P.M. with a memorial service at 7 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  Interment will be at Hawley Cemetery on a later date.
