Gene Elliott Borud

Gene Elliott Borud, 77, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND. Gene was born on August 29, 1941 to George and Esther (Sveum) Borud in Fosston, MN.

Gene grew up in Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force serving our country for four years. After returning home from his military service, he attended Bemidji State for Pre-Med. He then attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in wildlife management. Gene then began his career of 30 years at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Gene played the tuba in many bands, he volunteered many of his hours, he was an active member of the Shriners, and an active member at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He loved animals, card games, polka music, and appreciated the many fine dining locations of rural Minnesota.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine (Okerlund) Borud; children, Nate (Cathie) Borud and Matt (Amber Sheeley) Borud; beloved Olly; siblings, Thelma Worker, Phyllis Ertz, and Gerald (Colleen) Borud; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Esther; son, Jeffrey; sister, Shirley; and his baby brother.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the wake service at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN. Final resting place will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ripley, Little Falls, MN, in the spring.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Rosewood on Broadway and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the amazing care they provided to Gene during his stay.
