George A. Mehl

Age 88 of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, June 05, 2006, in Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND. George was born March 28, 1918 in Breckenridge, MN to Baldwin and Maria Schneider Mehl. He grew up, attended school, and in September of 1941 he married June Stitz in Breckenridge. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Great Falls, MT where he worked for the Railroad. When the railroad companies merged, George and June moved to Moorhead. He retired from the railroad in 1978 after 41 years. After retirement, George kept busy while running Mehl's Boiler Repair with his sons. He was also a master welder. He always enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, taking care of his lawn and garden, and kept very active well into his eighties. He loved spending time with his family and keeping up with their activities. He will be dearly missed. George was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, June; daughter, Carole; son, Thomas; grandchild Sarah; 4 brothers; and 1 sister. He is survived by his children, Timothy Sylvia, and Georgia Dusty Sorenson of Moorhead, Kay Gary Overby of Dilworth, Paul Mary Ann of Nevada, Peter Jill of Ashby, and Rebecca Eric Nelson of Turtle Lake, ND; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; brother, Joe; and long time friend, Judy Mehl.
