George D. Schenck

George Donald Pierson Schenck was born April 21, 1918 in Barnesville, Minnesota. He was the son of Cora Cook and Merle Schenck. He attended school at District #158 and Moorhead high school. He married Bernice Melby on July 14, 1940 at Downer Presbyterian Church. To this union they had ten children. He was a dairy and grain farmer south of Hawley until his retirement. He served on the Gran Lutheran Church council, Skree township board, director of Mid America Dairy and Clay County ADA. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, children, Donald Adelle, Merle Barb, John Kim, Paul Nancy, Steven, and Elizabeth Mark Burns, all of Hawley, MN, Sandra Petermann, Moorhead, MN, Mary Ellen Dennis Anderson, Eden Prairie, MN, and Doris Joe Gravelle, Detroit Lakes, MN; one brother, Harold Schenck, Baker, MN; one sister, Ellen Mortenson, Moorhead, MN; sisters-in-law, Marlys Schenck, Moorhead, MN, and Gloria Schenck, Baker, MN; thirty-three grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, a daughter, Karen, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
