George H. Peters

George H. Peters, 83, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. George was born May 28, 1937, to Robert and Edith (Flohrs) Peters. He grew up and attended school in Hawley before farming with his father. George was later called to active duty and served in the National Guard from 1954 – 1961. On March 20, 1964, he married Marlys Fike. Together they made their home near Hawley and farmed. Over the years, George raised milking shorthorn cattle, and milked 45 cows. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking care of the farm. He also enjoyed staying active in the community where he was a member of the American Legion, Lysne Lutheran Church, and on the Town Board for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlys; son, Billy (Becky) Peters; grandsons, Zachary, Seth, Travis and Jared Peters; great-granddaughter, Temperence; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, John; his parents, Robert and Edith; and his sister, Beatrice Ellingson.

Visitation will be Friday, October 9, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley.

Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m., at Lysne Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hawley, MN.
