George Johnson, Jr.

George Johnson, Jr., 92, Wyndmere, ND, died on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
George was born on April 24, 1923, at Breckenridge, MN, to George and Christina Michels Johnson. He grew up and attended school at Wyndmere, graduating from Wyndmere High School and then attending the University of North Dakota.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in WWII. Upon his discharge in 1946 he returned to Wyndmere and went to work in the family business, Johnson’s Store. Eventually his brother, Donald, established a grocery store and George continued in the dry goods store until 1985, when he closed the store and retired, spending winters in Sun City, AZ.
George married Ardyce Sanden Peterson on April 15, 1987 in Sun City, AZ. She died in November of 1994.
George was a very active member of the Wyndmere community all of his life.
He is survived by his sister, Karel Holten, Moorhead; eleven nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law Joyce Schoenfish, Fargo, ND.
Memorials may be given to the Halstad Living Center or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. in the Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND. Visitation will be for one hour before the funeral in the church. Interment will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery, Wyndmere, ND.
