George L. Keeping, age 91, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.George Leonard Keeping was born on April 10, 1916 to Charles and Minnie Wenthin Keeping in Hawley, MN on the family farm. He grew up and attended school Hawley. On September 28, 1941 he married Alice Carter in Hawley, together they had ten children. Shortly after they were married they moved to Detroit Lakes. George was a part of the Civil Conservation Corp in the Aleutian Islands near Alaska. In 1955 they moved to Hawley where he farmed until his retirement. He worked for Petermann Farms in rural Hawley, as an Ice Man in Detroit Lakes for Mission Ice Packing Company, Pillsbury Co. in Minneapolis, then Hill Carpentry in Detroit Lakes and Hanson Brothers Construction in Fargo for numerous years. Later George worked as a carpenter for Donnie Ingebretsen and Mel Sauer for a short time before retiring in 1978. George enjoyed hunting moose and deer in Canada as well as pheasant and grouse hunting around the Hawley area. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.He is survived by three sons, George of Hawley, Mike Paula of Glyndon and Thomas Susanne of Fargo; four daughters, Mary Lowell Larson of Glyndon, Peggy Doug Freed of Hinckley, MN, Diana Doug Giesinger of Ankeney, IA and Andrea Richard Neisius of Staples, MN; three brothers, Richard of Hawley, LeRoy of Framlingham, England and Vernon of Moorhead; one sister, Evelyn Harry Hansen of Hawley; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Jim Keeping; two daughters, Joan Harvala and Marcia Neisius; one sister, Jeanette Zachariason.
