George was born November 21, 1918, in Hitterdal, MN, to John and Martha Sahlberg. He grew up and attended school in Hitterdal, MN, graduating from Hitterdal High School. During the Depression, George worked for the CCC Camps in Washington State. George married Clara Viola Skjerva Zachariason on October 17, 1947 at Hegland Lutheran Church, in rural Hawley, MN. Following their marriage they dairy farmed near Hitterdal, MN, until 1975, when they moved to the "river farm" near Hawley, MN, where they kept cattle and operated his dairy replacement business. Clara died June 1, 1986. George moved to the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN, in December 1998, where he received ten years of wonderful care. George enjoyed baseball, singing and politics. He was active in the Democratic Party, including being a County Chairman. He sang throughout his life at many functions, including singing in the Ambassador's Men's Choir, and singing at nursing homes. George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; three brothers, Charles, Gordon & Elmer; two sisters, Agnes Pearson & June Langerud; and one step-daughter, Judith LaMotte. He is survived by two sons, Paul Sahlberg, Hawley, MN, and Michael Sahlberg, North Dakota; one daughter, Evaughn Bill Anderson, Inver Grove Heights, MN; one brother, Carl Beatrice Sahlberg, Hawley, MN; sisters-in-law, Corrine Sahlberg, Florida, Doris Sahlberg, Washington, and Margaret Sahlberg, Ulen, MN; one brother-in-law, Gordon Langerud, Hawley, MN; five grandchildren, Sara Kyle Sager, Andrew, Steven, Rachel & Erin; thirty-five nieces & nephews; and many loved friends.
