Georgiann Stenerson

Georgiann Stenerson, 83, of Moorhead MN, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Healthpark Medical Center, in Fort Myers, Florida with her husband Robert, son John and Pastor Rusty at her side.

Georgiann was born in the family home at 404 11th Street North in Moorhead on August 21, 1934 to Leslie and Sylvia (Smith) Nelson. She graduated from Moorhead High School. Georgiann was united in marriage to Robert Stenerson on August 12, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Since then, Bob has affectionately called her “Honeybee”. Together they raised their four children: Julie, John, Jay and Leslie.

Georgiann worked all her life as a volunteer and in the service of her community. Georgiann was actively involved in politics. Her accomplishments include; appointed to the Metropolitan Airport Commission by Governor Arnie Carlson, Chairperson of the Clay County Republican Party, Chairperson of the 7th District Republican Party and Vice-chair of the Minnesota State Republican Party. She attended three Republican National Conventions as a delegate representing the 7th Congressional District of Minnesota. In 1988 Georgiann earned the Outstanding Women in Politics of Cass & Clay Counties.

Georgiann was an active member of 3 churches; Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Nee Gon Nee Lutheran Church, near Roy Lake, and St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fort Myers Beach. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life.

Upon their retirement in 1997 Georgiann and her beloved husband Bob traveled the world to 73 countries. They have taken over 50 cruises together. They have memories and mementos filling their homes and lives. Along with traveling, and since they married, they spent every summer weekend at the family cottage on Roy Lake. They loved Roy Lake as much as Fort Myers Beach where they spent every winter since 1969.

Family was most important to Georgiann. She loved holidays where everyone would come to their home. Her specialty was Italian Spaghetti and Meatballs which everyone loved! She loved watching the news and keeping up with current events.

Georgiann  is survived by her husband Robert Stenerson; one of her 5 siblings, sister Marj (Virgil) Froemke; all of her children; Julie Chaffins, Moorhead, MN; John (Lori) Stenerson, Audubon; Jay (Emy) Stenerson, Sabin; Leslie (Becky) Stenerson, Glyndon MN; thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Also, Georgiann is survived by two very special nieces; Sylvia “Doonie” Soeth and Kay Dahl along with numerous other nieces and nephews.
