Gerald G. Thompson

Gerald Gene Thompson, 79, of Hawley, MN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, February 15, 2019.

Gerald was born September 6, 1939 to Bennie and Evalena (McCollum) Thompson of Gary, MN.  He attended school in Gary and following graduation pursued a career as an electrician, which he did for 35 years.

While working in Cando, ND, Gerald met his wife Joyce (Olson) and they were married on March 28, 1959.  They bought a farm in Hawley where they raised their family.

Gerald had several hobbies including horseback riding, cattle drives and wagon trains. He loved Ski-Doo and John Deere and had a great passion for the rodeo.  Gerald was the chairman of the 30^th Annual Hawley Rodeo in 1989 and worked with the rodeo from its beginning.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Joyce (Olson) Thompson of Hawley; daughters, Donna Eide of West Fargo and Kimberlee Thompson of Fergus Falls; son, Jarett (April) Thompson of Baxter, MN; sisters, Sharon (Tom) Johnson, Caren Mikesh and Bonnie Gay Thompson; brother, Marvis (Margie) Thompson; sister-in-law, Gloria Thompson; 6 grandkids and 8 great-grandkids with a 9^th on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sonny and Melvin, and sister Evie.

The family would like to thank Ethos Hospice for their wonderful care.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.

A funeral service will he held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery.
