Gilbert L. Osmondson, 83, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Gilbert was born on August 8, 1932, in Moorhead, MN, to Orville and Gwentya Hines Osmundson. He married Diane Wasfaret on August 8, 1952 in Concordia Lutheran Church near Glyndon. Gil served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 and Diane was able to join him overseas where they travelled around Europe. Following his discharge they made their home in Moorhead. He owned and operated Osmundson Hay Trucking, with eleven trucks dispatched out of Averill, MN. In later years he drove for Midnight Express Trucking.
He owned a lake home on Many Point Lake for 41 years. He enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, golfing, and gardening – raising tomatoes and giving them away. He also had his private pilot’s license.
His wife, Diane, died on March 26, 2006, and his son Mark died in 2010. Along with his wife and son, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ardyce Messerschmidt, Lorayne Tommerdahl, and Sandra Borstad.
Gil is survived by his daughter-in-law, Julie Osmundson, Otsego, MN; Granddaughter, Olivia Osmundson, Otsego, MN; brothers-in-law, Gene Wasfaret, Moorhead, Bob Messerschmidt, Glyndon, MN, and Howard Borstad, Tioga, ND; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Isrow, Fargo, and Beth Wasfaret, Dilworth, MN.
Funeral: Monday, January 11, 2016, at 1:30 P.M. in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral in the church.
Interment: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
