Gilbert was born July 29, 1923, in Graceville, MN, to Martin and Edna Walz Sellden. The family lived in Collis, MN, until moving to Dumont, MN, when Gilbert was three. Gilbert attended school in Collis through the 8th grade. On June 24, 1945, he married Darlene Ertsgaard. Together they had six children, Dennis of Littleton, CO, Donna of Coon Rapids, MN, Diane of Benica, CA, Delores who passed away in 1988, and David and Duane who died in infancy. After marriage, they moved to Parnel Township for nine years before moving east of Wheaton, MN. They later moved to White Rock, SD, and back to Wheaton before settling in Moorhead. Over the years, Gilbert worked for logging camps in North Dakota and South Dakota and farmed at several of the living locations before working at the Wheaton Coop Creamery until 1957. The creamery was later bought by Cass Clay Creamery of Fargo and later transferred to Moorhead in 1962. Gilbert enjoyed running his own lawn mowing/snow blowing business and in the summer months had help from his grandsons. He later sold the business and retired in 1986. In retirement Gilbert enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Branson, Florida, California, Colorado, Canada and spending time at their lake cottage in Pelican Rapids. For several years, he wintered in Arizona, but later years they stayed in Minnesota and enjoyed coffee with friends at McDonald's, Frying Pan and M&H. Gilbert also loved playing various card games with family and friends, bowling, gardening, hunting, fishing, and golfing. Most recently, Gilbert lived at Golden Living Center in Moorhead with his wife Darlene. He will be missed.Gilbert is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Dennis Sellden of Littleton, CO, Donna Fiske-Iseminger of Coon Rapids, MN, Diane Hildebrandt of Benicia, CA; 8 Grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Doris Warholm, Bernice Johnson, and Louis Sellden.He was preceded in death by daughter Delores; sons, Duane and Dean; sister, Gladys Nielsen; and mother and father. Memorials will be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the American Heart Association.
