Gladys H. Buhaug

March 15, 1922 — March 13, 2011

Gladys Hazel Berget Buhaug was born March 15, 1922, to George and Stella Faleide Berget on the Ole Berget farm near Grantsburg, WI. In 1924 they moved to Maddock, ND, where her dad helped with the work on the Faleide farm. In 1928, they moved to a farm near Hickson, ND. She attended school in North Pleasant No. 8, at Hickson. In 1937, they moved to a farm northeast of Ulen. They drove to Ulen and all of their furnishing came by train. Until their belongings arrived, they stayed at the Gibson house. She finished 8th grade at the Braaten town school. She walked or skied in the winter to school when it was nice, her dad gave her a ride. It was 2 1/2 miles. On October 31, 1942, she married George Bernard Buhaug at the parsonage in Ulen with Pastor J.R. Runholt officiating. Attendants were Russel Buhaug and Helen Livdahl. The first 10 years of marriage they lived with George's parents west of Hitterdal. They had seven children, Gerald Kathy Bell, Caroline Carl Lokken, John Lori Westlund, Sandra Perkins, Karl Kim Lauinger, Mark, who died in 2008, Kristi David Wolf, and an infant son who died at birth. In 1953 they moved to a farm southeast of Ulen, where they resided until 1962 when they moved to Hawley. They purchased a house in Dilworth in 1970 and she and George enjoyed going out to eat at Sher's Kitchen and the Viking Café. George passed away in 1996 and she continued to live in Dilworth until moving into the assisted living in Ulen in 2000. She entered the nursing home in September of 2009. Gladys enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and making stuffed bears, clowns, and dolls. She crocheted two beautiful table cloths and many doilies. Every grandchild got a teddy bear or a clown. While at the assisted living one year, she made 36 clowns. She had 10 grandchildren, Deanna Randy Zimmerman, Denelle Jamie Braseth Wibe, Justin Perkins, Coleman Perkins, Vanessa Perkins, Abby Buhaug, Matthew Buhaug, Lindsay Buhaug, KarLynn Buhaug, and Kristynn Buhaug; 8 great-grandchildren, Cris Samantha Zimmerman, Kaylee Mike Lapp, Cody Zimmerman, Amber Wibe, Adam Wibe, Hayden Perkins, Zane Perkins, Ashe Perkins; and one great-great grandchild, Conner Zimmerman; brother, Odin Berget; sister, Judith Evink; and sister-in-law, Gloria Buhaug.
