Gladys Viola Thoreson, age 95, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.Gladys was born February 11, 1917 in Pipestone, MN, to Joseph and Nettie Buell Nafziger. She grew up and attended school near Pipestone, MN. Gladys married William "Bill" Thoreson on August 14, 1934 in Hitterdal, MN. Following their marriage they farmed southeast of Twin Valley until 1951. They owned and operated the Spot Café in Ada, MN. Later they moved to Moorhead in 1961 where she worked at the Red Apple and De Lendrecies. In the late 1970's they moved to Upper Cormorant. William died September 21, 1990. In 1991, Gladys moved to the Lamplighter in Detroit Lakes, MN, and entered Emmanuel Nursing Home on July 20, 2008. Gladys enjoyed embroidering, quilting and spending time with her family and friends. Blessed be the memory of Gladys Viola Thoreson.Gladys is survived by her son, Ralph Marilee Thoreson of Zimmerman, MN; three daughters, Marjorie Cecil Hanson of Moorhead, MN, Carol Gary Witte of Regent, ND, and Nancy Gary Weflen of Plentywood, MT; sister, Marian Mahoney of Pipestone, MN; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters.
